There has been much hand-wringing about the state of democracy in America, and perhaps rightly so. Democracy is precious, and it is hard to sustain, and once we lose it it's hard to get back.
It can be hard to tell between the tragic demise of something precious and the normal tumult of a republic for which difference in opinion and expression is accepted. As we come upon the 250th anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence from England, let us be on guard for the former and celebrate the latter. USA!
