By Design

Pleased to announce I have joined the Board of Advisors for the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design.  This is a non-fiduciary, non-governance role within Penn and Weitzman, and as the name indicates gives me a wonderful platform to invest my time, perspective, and expertise for the good of the program and its beneficiaries.

I know my mom would be proud, given her design background, that a world-class institution thought it would benefit from the volunteer services of her son.  And I know I am eager to contribute, with my past School Board role and my present perspective as both a neighborhood resident and economic consultant being things I can bring to the table to support Weitzman's aims to serve its students, the West Philadelphia community in which it is located, and the industry it prepares leaders in.

Ironically, I am not at all gifted in the things Weitzman is good at.  I like to say that I didn't inherit any of my mom's skill in this space; my sister clearly did.  But I did inherit and learn from her a deep appreciation for good design and for the power of good design.  And, I've put my own personal spin on what that means, from the perspective of economics and justice and cities and faith.

It will be rewarding for me to observe, and where possible contribute, to Weitzman's work in classroom and community.  And, I am joining a powerhouse group of fellow Board of Advisors members who I am delighted to get to know and learn from.  We have a lot of work to do, and I am energized by and thankful for the opportunity.
