ERRANDS IN THE CITY

One of the things I love about cities in general, and Philadelphia in particular, is that you can get a lot of errands done without using a car. Short car trips are the death of our planet. Here’s what I was able to do in a two-hour span this morning just using my own two:

10:07-10:22 walk nine blocks east from work to doctor’s office to get immunization shot

10:22-10:48 doctor’s office

10:48-11:00 walk seven blocks east to post office to buy stamps

11:00-11:03 buy stamps

11:03-11:18 walk nine blocks east to specialty grocery store to buy dried fruit

11:18-11:21 buy dried fruit

11:21-11:36 walk nine blocks east to T-Mobile to buy new cell phone (my last one finally died yesterday)

11:36-11:41 buy new cell phone

11:41-11:43 wait for bus

11:43-11:51 take bus 28 blocks west to produce truck to buy produce

11:51-11:55 buy produce

11:55-12:00 walk three blocks home to drop everything off

12:00-12:06 walk four blocks back to work

Five errands in two hours, without ever having to walk more than a mile for any leg. And I got some exercise. Who needs a car?
