It's something I wish our firm had the time to study when we looked at retail here in Philadelphia. Particularly this notion of whether churches on retail corridors add to (via foot traffic) or subtract from (by taking up lots of prime street-level space) nearby retail success. The only thing that I would add is that the physical beauty of the building can be part of the outward mission, not just an inward focus, of the church. A nicely kept church, especially if it is integrated well with the neighborhood around it, can be a blessing to everyone who passes by.<br /><br />I think of those charming New England churches.
